William J. Johnston, 74, of Harmony Township, died Friday, August 19, 2022. He was born on March 27, 1948 in Monroe County, Tennessee to the late Grady R. and Binnie (Bridges) Johnston. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in Vietnam retiring in 1988 with 20 years of service. Bill then took a job with the United States Postal Service retiring again in 2011 with 20 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #474, Zelienople. He is survived by his four children, John W. (Christle) Johnston of California, Chad R. Johnston, Christine M. (Brian) Hertneky of Harmony Twp., Wayne M. Johnston of Evans City, 12 grandchildren, five siblings, Grady T. Johnston, Clara L. Bradway, Willard M. Johnston, Gossett E. Johnston, Bonnie Carolyn L. Hooper, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM with the Rev. Jill McGregor officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts are suggested to the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. to help the family with funeral expenses.
