Shirley Richardson Obituary

Shirley Ann Richardson, 64, of Ambridge, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, in her home. She was the youngest child of the late George, Sr. and Mary (Kraus) Richardson born on the North Side of Pittsburgh. In her younger years, she was a highly respected cosmetologist and color specialist who brought high style to the low class. She was always a beautiful, brilliant, woman with a penchant for bad men, cold beer, and stray animals. She was always dressed to the nines, with the best hair and nails and had a heart of gold. Shirley attended North Hills High School where she met the father of her son. She was a bright and outspoken wild child with a love of good times. After having her son, she eventually moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where she fell in love the sun and the sand of the beaches, often losing track of time reading a book or listening to the radio. She was a great ambassador of family and tradition and an awesome cook and baker like both her parents. Shirley loved spending time with her son, nieces, and nephews when they were little. She sometimes gave them a nickname they were not fond of. In her later years, Shirley was a home health aide who took great pride in her ability to help others and to make their lives easier. She created many relationships with families because of her dedication. She loved doing craft work, restoring furniture, growing house plants, continuously watching the ID Channel to secretly plan the perfect crime. Shirley was outspoken and forgiving. She could cuss you out and then hug you on your way out the door. Her generosity could never be duplicated and was always a champion for the underdog. Shirley was a valuable member of her family. She lived by her own set of rules and could not be held down by anyone. She will be greatly missed by her entire family and leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those she meant the most to. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were a nephew, John (Buddy) Matthewpos in 2009 and a sister-in-law, Gretchen Richardson. She is survived by Paul (P. J.) Young and his husband, Michael of Economy, grandson, Andru J. Young at home, whom she was always so proud of, her siblings, big brother, George (GiGi) Richardson, Jr. of York, PA, sister, Linda Voshall of Ambridge, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and "adopted" family members, her one-eyed dog, Penny and faithful cat, Monkey.  A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12 from 3 until the time of memorial service (Celebration of Shirley's Life) at 4:30 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge.
