Rita Muckian Obituary

Rita J. (Wolicki) Muckian passed away on the morning of January 27, 2021. She was born on April 19, 1937. She was the daughter of the late John Wolicki and Emily (Iwaskiewicz) Wolicki and sister of Robert (Peggy) Wolicki. She was also preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Martin J. Muckian. She is survived by her daughters Maribeth Muckian (David Bates) and Leanne (David) Gould, grandchildren Brendan (Hilary) Muckian, Devon (Robin) Gould, Alexandra (Jesse) Wilson, and Lukas Gould, and four precious greatgrandchildren, Sophia, Aidan, Lyla, and Madelyn. For most of her life, Rita resided in Ambridge. She attended Ambridge High School, where she was a feisty point guard for the Yale-Princeton Girls’ Basketball Team, had a lead role in the production of “Arsenic and Old Lace”, and was an enthusiastic bobby-soxer at high school dances. She worked for many years as a clerk at Joseph Hornes’ and later JC Penney department stores at the Beaver Valley Mall. Many of her co-workers became lifetime best friends; all of the customers were “family’. To her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she will always be the “Magical Mamoo”. A day spent with mamoo was sure to be filled with adventure, imagination, and the totally unexpected. You never knew if you would wake up to a day of walking softly in a mysterious snow-filled forest, or tooth fairy footprints on your pillow, or digging for dinosaur eggs in the backyard. A special treat was a trip to the library, followed by eating mounds of gravy fries while sipping hot chocolate at K&N’s. Rita never stopped believing in Santa Claus. We will sorely miss the magic in our lives. Due to Covid-19, a private family service was held on Saturday at the John Syka Funeral Home. We hope to celebrate her life with her many friends and family members in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in her memory to : Head Start of Beaver County 205 Beaver Valley Mall Monaca, Pa 15061
