Rita B. Krein

Rita B. Krein, 97, of Bell Acres, (Sewickley) passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023. She was born on August 23, 1926, in Sharpsburg, to late Charles and Marcella (Biernesser) Berner. She began her career as an opera singer with the Pittsburgh Opera Company. Upon marriage to her late husband Francis John Krein, she moved to the suburbs of Bell Acres. She was one of the original founders of the Big Sewickley Creek Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was an extremely active member for well over 50 years hosting countless fundraisers for the fire department. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were a daughter, Leslie Anne Young, a sister, Mercedes Schott and four brothers, Paul, Harold, Ralph, and James Berner. Rita was a devoted mother to Christine Myers and Ellie Tomichek, a devoted grandmother to Rebecca Myers, Sarah Beth Trozzo, Carlton Jay Shomo, Nicole Dreher, and Jessica Tomichek; and a devoted great-grandmother to Mia and Gravin Trozzo. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 5 to 8 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 9 AM. Interment will follow in Good Samaritan Cemetery.
