Patricia Dunn Obituary

Patricia A. Dunn, 85, of Ambridge left us unexpectedly from UPMC Passavant Hospital – McCandless, early Saturday morning, May 14, 2022. “Patsy” or “Patsy Ann” entered this world as the second child born to Caroline and George Knopick, also of Ambridge, August 16, 1936. Mrs. Dunn spent her entire life devoted to her family as a loving mother and wife. She lived inseparably for 59 ½ years from her proud husband, John Stanley “Jack” Dunn, who sadly predeceased her December 2018. Over the years, they were proud, visible members of the Ambridge community contributing professionally, voluntarily and philanthropically, while residing in town their entire lives. They genuinely enjoyed engaging and interacting with fellow citizens, cultivating numerous relationships and friends that they truly cherished. Together they dutifully and faithfully collected property tax for the school district and borough of Ambridge for 40 consecutive years. In 1962 they founded the John S. Dunn Agency, Inc. where Patty would serve as office manager until recently. As members of Good Samaritan Parish in Ambridge, they were active in the early stages of what has become the annual parish fundraising festival. A passionate gardener and dedicated homemaker, she took great pride in the appearance of her house and natural beauty of her rose and perennial gardens. She enjoyed entertaining and decorating, especially around the holidays and in the summer months spending time on her front porch “the outdoor living room”. Patty was an avid traveler, experiencing Europe and the Middle East, as well as treasures stateside and throughout the North American continent, including Mexico and the Caribbean, usually as a memorable annual family vacation. A voracious reader, she preferred books over television. It wasn’t uncommon for her to finish a book weekly, but only after her responsibilities as employee, wife, mother and homemaker were complete. As a 45 plus year cardiac survivor, Patty espoused the benefits of daily exercise, especially walking, and a healthy diet. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her sister Margaret “Cookie” and brother-in-law Thomas Lavery of Dearborn Michigan, sister-in-law Sue Best Knopick, Warren PA, brothers in law Charles “Buddy” (Jean) Dunn, San Francisco CA, Jimmy (Patty) Dunn, Wexford PA, and Thomas “Tommy” Dunn, Orlando FL. Additional sisters and brothers in law Mary Francis (Joe) Warfelman, Warwick RI and Rita (Lester) Morris, Beaumont TX. And sadly, a nephew, Scott Knopick, North Carolina She is survived by three wonderful children, sons, John Scott Dunn and Michael George Dunn, Ambridge, PA, and a daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Dunn Ries, Hookstown, PA. Suzanne Ries, her only grandchild, was the light of her life. Additionally survived by younger brother, George (Jeannie) Knopick, Tampa, FL and three sisters in law, Georgeann Lepinsky, Hilton Head, SC, and Janyce M. Burnett, Ponte Vedra, FL and Marilyn Taddy Dunn, Orlando FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. and a private mass of Christian burial was held at Good Samaritan Parish. Interment will be at Good Samaritan Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Patty can be made to a charity of your choosing.
