Obituary

Nicholas Vincent Smrzlick, 94, of Baden, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 25, 1928, in Ambridge, son of the late Milos and Agnes (Kappelle) Smrzlick, Nicholas was a retired steel fitter for the American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corporation. He was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Good Samaritan Catholic Church, Ambridge and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Mary Jean (Stein) Smrzlick, his twin brother, Peter, along with siblings, Mark, Rudolph, Vincent, Leo, Agnes and Josephine, and son-in-law, James Zona. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Zona of Allison Park; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Nicholas Smrzlick of Port Deposit, MD; Robert Smrzlick of Morganton, NC; James Smrzlick of Conway and Thomas and Rachel Smrzlick of Freedom, 14 grandchildren, Angela Carr, Christina Cummings, Jimmy Zona, Jennifer Champion, Craig Micija, and Dennis, Christopher, Derrick, Cecily, Deanna, Brandon, Laura, Matthew and Ryan Smrzlick, and many great-grandchildren including James, Andrew, Caroline and Katherine Carr, Sage Champion and Michael and Patrick  Cummings along with many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3-7 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge where prayers will be offered on Thursday at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Good Samaritan Catholic Church. Interment with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the United States Army will follow at 11:30 AM in Good Samaritan Cemetery. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Heather, Cody and Danene of Vitas Hospice for their loving and compassionate care extended to Nicholas. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Beaver County Humane Society.
