Mary "Marie" (Pihonsky) Sudik

Mary (Marie) Sudik of Raleigh, N.C., previously of Ambridge, passed away on Friday March 25, 2022, at the age of 96. Born Mary Pihonsky in Leetsdale on March 24, 1926, to the late Michael and Elizabeth Pihonsky, Mary was one of five children. She graduated from Leetsdale High School in 1944 and married her husband in 1946.  Mary worked alongside her husband as bookkeeper for their business, Motive Parts Co. of Ambridge for 30 years. Mary loved life and lived it to the fullest up until the end, called to the Lord just one day after her 96th birthday.

Mary had many passions in life, from cantering at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Ambridge to cheering on her beloved Steelers and Pirates. She enjoyed playing golf (with a hole-in-one as her claim to fame) as well as the occasional one-arm bandit. Mary loved to cook and bake for her family and friends (her chocolate chip cookies are legendary).

Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years (Andrew) and her beloved granddaughter (Theresa). She is survived by her son Michael (Maura) Sudik of Youngsville, N.C. and daughter Patricia (Peter) Balkovec of Gibsonia, PA, granddaughters Andrea (Michael) Kakuk of Indian Trail, N.C. and Lynn (Alex) Keene of Huntersville, N.C.; great-granddaughters Veronica and Theresa Kakuk; niece Carol Beck of Ambridge who looked after her on many occasions; as well as numerous nieces and nephews that were all special to her.

Family and Friends are invited to meet on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:30 AM in the SS Peter & Paul Ukraine Catholic Cemetery, Ridge Rd Extension, Ambridge, where a Panachyda and Commital service will be held by Rev. Geoffrey Mackey, pastor of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Ambridge.
