M. Jayne Schneider Obituary


M. Jayne Schneider, 89, formerly of Harmony, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2022, in Rochester Manor. She was born on June 8, 1933, in Pittsburgh, to the late Earl and Mary Virginia (Crawford) Gamble. After graduating from Oliver High School in 1952, she went to work at Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates. While working there, she attended night classes at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in English and History. In 1954, she took a position as a secretary at Dupont Corporation where she worked until she married Ron Confer in December of 1956. After raising two children, she returned to Pitt in 1965 where she received her bachelor's degree in 1970. She furthered her education post-grad receiving her master's degree in library science in 1972. Jayne began her 23-year career as a librarian at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary until her retirement on August 1, 1995. In 1981, her divorce became final from Ron Confer and she met Dick Schneider the day after Christmas in 1981. They were married in August of 1982. Jayne's passion in life was music and singing. She had the privilege of singing on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England with the Sweet Adelines Golden Triangle Chapter.  In her words, " It was a once in a lifetime experience." Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her second husband, Richard " Dick" Schneider on October 2, 2021. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a daughter, Virginia (Christopher) Kardasz of Economy, a son, Mark Confer and Kandi Piper-Fetter of Derry, PA, stepson, Richard (Nicole) Schneider of Cranberry, stepdaughter, Amy Wetzel of Pittsburgh, grandchildren, Christopher Confer, Angela (Josh) Kapisak, and Dillon Schneider, and three great grandchildren. A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10:30 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Concord Presbyterian Church, 2832 Conway Wallrose Road, Economy Borough with her pastor, the Rev. Jamie Fowler and her longtime friend and pastor, Tanta Hendricks officiating. Everyone is invited to a luncheon to continue the celebration of Jayne's life in the church hall immediately following the service. Private interment will take place in Uniondale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
