John Stanko Obituary


John Stanko, Jr. 86, of Baden, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver. He was born on April 25, 1936 in Sewickley, to the late John J. and Rose (Vargo) Stanko. He worked as receiving manager for the former Sears and Roebuck Company. John sat on Baden Council for 4 years, was a former member of the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department, member and former fire chief of the Baden Fire Department and member and past president of the Pennsylvania Fire Chiefs Association. He had a passion for all kinds of model trains, HO and N gauge. John proudly served his country during peacetime as a member of the US Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maryann (Zupanc) Stanko, daughter, Lisa (Phil) Williston of Lakeland, FL, son, John J. Stanko and Megan William of Baden, grandson, John J. Williston of Lakeland, FL, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eva and Attorney Sam Orr of Beaver, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brad and Dee Cvetovich of NC, cousin, Rosemary (Lloyd) Carver, family friend, Marcella Grohall of Ft. Myers, FL and his beloved dog, Buddy. At John's request, there was no public visitation. A private funeral service was held at the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the United States Air Force. Private interment was in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Hein and staff and Ashley from Gallagher Hospice for their compassionate care.
