John W. Mitchell, 82, of New Sewickley, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Paramount Senior Living, Peters Twp. He was born on March 15, 1940, in Leetsdale, to the late Daniel and Catherine Mitchell. He was a retired steel worker for LTV Steel Corporation and then worked as a driver for the Butler Auto Auction. John was a true Pittsburgh sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers and followed Notre Dame football. In his younger days, he caddied at Sewickley Heights Country Club. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, St. Felix Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as an usher. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Frances (Spear) Mitchell, two brothers, Daniel (Sonny) Mitchell, Jim Evans, a sister, Lois Pavlik and son- in-law, Michael Wenger. He is survived by a daughter, Kristin Wenger, a son, John (Shellie) Mitchell, granddaughter, Jordyn Mitchell, his best friend Buttons and grand doggy, Dutch. Friends will be received on Sunday from 3 to 5 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge where prayers will be offered on Monday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, St. Felix Catholic Church with Father Paul Cupp officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Freedom. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Parkinsons Foundation of Western Pennsylvania (pfwpa.org)
