John R. Derochis, 88, of Ambridge, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in Heritage Valley, Beaver. He was born June 15, 1932 in his Ambridge home to the late Charles and Lucia (Scalise) Derochis. He always felt privileged to say that he was born in the home where he spent all of his life. John was born with many challenging disabilities, but that didn't stop him from working at the Ambridge VFW. He not only cleaned there, he faithfully raised and lowered the American flag carefully and with the help of his sister folded it perfectly each time for many many years. Anyone who met John would say that he was the most pleasant person and always had a smile. He loved to joke around commenting "Here comes trouble". He was not trouble at all, everyone loved him. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his brothers, Michael Serene and Alex Derochis, and sisters, Mary Cannataro, Antoinette Bufalini, Angelina Sedlowski, and Rose Dziak. Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 10 AM until time of closing prayers at 11:40 AM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon in Good Samaritan Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of John's caregivers over the past several years for their faithful and compassionate assistance. A very special appreciation to the Baker and Jones family, who were very much his family and loved so much. In addition to his caregivers, John was visited my many from America's Hospice and AmeriHealth who would visit to check up on him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to DePaul School for Hearing and Speech, 6202 Alder St. Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
