Joanne L. McCartney, 77, of Baden, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 11, 2023, as a result of complications from surgery at Heritage Valley Sewickley. She was born on April 30, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa to the late Kenneth D. and Ellen L. (Brown) Lawrence. She was a 1963 graduate of Garfield High School and worked as a secretary at the Association Directory of Marketing and numerous other jobs over the years. She was a long-time member of Baden United Methodist Church where she served on the administration board, the financial secretary and taught Sunday School. Joanne donated her time as a volunteer for many church activities. Joanne enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and the family vacations to the Outer Banks. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were a brother, Kenneth Lawrence, a sister, Ginger Brewster, and daughter-in- law, Sheila McCartney. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Francis E. McCartney, Sr. a son, Francis E. McCartney, Jr. and his fiancé, Ruth Agnew of Baden, a daughter, Dawn (William) Arnold of Monaca, granddaughter, Kasey Arnold, three sisters, Dorothy Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, Carol (Jerry) Thompson of Woodbridge, VA, and Barbara (Peter) Sinegal of Reston, VA, a brother, George (Rose) Lawrence of Berkley Springs, WV and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. Family and friends will meet Thursday at the Baden United Methodist Church, State St. and Dippold Ave, Baden where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM by her pastor, the Rev. James Young. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum.
