Joann Marion Prellwitz, 83, of Conway, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver. She was born on February 22, 1940, in Beaver County, PA to the late John V. and Rose Ann (Weber) Stefansky. She was a warm, loving, and giving person who deeply cared for her family and friends and was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend who will be greatly missed. Joann was a graduate of Mt. Gallitzin High School, Baden and went on to earn a Batchelor Degree from Mount Mercy College and master's degree in education from Duquesne University, both in Pittsburgh. Throughout her career, Joann worked for the State Employment Agency in Rochester, as a social worker and employment counselor. She also served in religious education at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Conway and held the position of Director of Religious Education for the Roman Catholic parishes of St. Mary's in McKees Rocks, St. Alexis in Wexford, Good Samaritan in Ambridge, and St. John's in Monaca. Following retirement from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Joann worked as a teacher in daycare, most recently at Joanne's Daycare in Conway. Joann was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Conway and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Baden and most recently, Our Lady of the Valley Parish, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Beaver. In her free time, Joann enjoyed caring for her family, spending time with friends, and supporting her parishes by helping with CCD and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was an avid Pittsburgh sports enthusiast and often kept her family up to date with current events. A warm and loving individual, Joanne Marion Prellwitz will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her faith, and her community. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her husband, John Henry Prellwitz. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Henry Prellwitz II and Christine Prellwitz, and daughter, Amy Lynn Prellwitz. Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge where prayers will be offered on Tuesday at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Valley Parish, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 200 3rd St. Beaver, PA 15009, with Father Paul Kuppe officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Freedom.
