Genevieve Montemayor Curcio, 86, of Harmony Township, peacefully entered the glorious gates of Heaven in the arms of Angels, surrounded by her loving family on August 17, 2021, to be reunited with the love of her life, James.
Genevieve, fondly known as Ginger, Grammy and Mrs. C, was born on July 26, 1935, in Ambridge, a daughter of the late Donaciano and Angeline Montemayor.
Genevieve was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Sewickley, PA, where she was very dedicated in various clubs & organizations, and a member of the 55 Plus Club . She retired from Bell Telephone/Verizon after being employed for over 40 years. She also had been employed at Sears & Roebucks, Baden, PA in the credit department in evenings during her children’s early years, so she could be home with them during the day. She had been involved in many social organizations through her years and always contributed to make a positive difference.
Genevieve was an avid lover of antiques, reading, decorating her home, working in her yard, cooking, baking, and ballroom dancing with her husband. She was always ready to lend a hand to anyone needing help. She was a wonderful seamstress and created beautiful clothing, prom dresses and her own designs. She adored her grandchildren and made many Halloween costumes, hand beaded dance costumes, mended teddy bears & bunnies, and never missed a performance her grandchildren participated in including dance, theater and sports. In her later years after retirement, she really enjoyed relaxing on her back porch to read and visiting with her neighbors.
She will forever be loved and cherished by her children whom she loved so dearly, Susan C. and Dennis Pokita and James D. and Ronda Curcio. She was the loving Grammy to Angela and Rachel Curcio, Sarah Lynn Pokita and Zachary & Tess Pokita. She was blessed to meet her first great-grandchild James Dennis Pokita, born in July 2021. She will be greatly missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends. She will also be sadly missed by her beloved grand-dogs Winnie, Sadie, Kevin, Bentley, Beau & Bailey, who always had happy wagging tails for her! She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband James T. Curcio, and siblings Erlinda Knopickand Daniel Montemayor.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 3-8 pm in the John Syka Funeral Home, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where prayers will be offered Saturday at 10am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11am in St. James Catholic Church, Sewickley. Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to all of their family and friends for their love, support, kindness, and always helping to make our Mom’s life a bright and happy one!
Very special thanks to her many medical specialists who kept her going and helped her overcome many obstacles, Gallagher Hospice, and for her compassionate at-home personal caretakers who made her last few years the best with their loving care. We will be forever grateful to everyone who had a part in our Mom’s life through the years.
Our family light will be dimmed as our little “firecracker” has moved up to Heaven and we will honor and cherish her spirited strength, dignity, determination, beauty, kindness and love forever. May she shine as brightly in Heaven as she did here on Earth. “There are no goodbyes for us….wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts”.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a favorite charity.
