Elmer Evanko Obituary


Elmer Richard Evanko at the age of 97 met his heavenly Father on November 16, 2021 while at home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth, his parents, John and Anna Evanko, his brothers, George, John, and Theodore as well as sisters, Helen Walker and Mary. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Ronald) Havranek, grandson, Brett (Jessica) Havranek, and great grandchildren, Gwyn, Blake, and Harrison, sister-in-law, Marcie Tunney, and nephews, William Tunney and Lee Smith, and nieces, Leslie Sacchettini, Kris Klimas, Patricia Kowall, Linda Decker and Lori Kohlier. Elmer was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army in the European Theatre of Operations as a technical sergeant crossing France, Germany and Austria. After the war, Elmer attended Allegheny Technical School. He was a manager for the Prince Theatre in Ambridge, television serviceman
for Prince in Sewickley, crane operator for HK Porter and power plant operator for St. Joe Minerals Corp. Elmer's church and family were everything to him. He was an avid sports fan particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Baden and the Frateral Order of the Eagles. He could be seen walking up and down the hills of Baden even at the age of 94. He was best known for sunny disposition  and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the caregivers of the Baker and Jones families for the excellent care given in the final days and the nurses of Good Samaritan Hospice. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 1-5  PM at the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge where prayers will be offered on Monday at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Linmore Ave., Baden. Interment with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the US Army will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hopewell Twp. Donations if desired may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital or the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Baden.
