Elizabeth “Libby” Melnick

Elizabeth G. (Gilbert) "Libby" Melnick, 91, formerly of Leetsdale, died Monday, May 18, 2020 in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. She was born August 7, 1928 in Bradenville, PA to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Malarik) Gilbert. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ambridge where she was a member of the Marion Guild Society, Leetsdale VFW Post 3372 Ladies Auxiliary, and the UNA Lodge 161, Ambridge. She loved cooking and baking. When the children were growing up at home it was "Libby's on the table". She shared her birthday 8-7 with her favorite hockey player,  87 Sydney Crosby. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Stephen Melnick, May 2, 2012, brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Freda Gilbert and two sisters, Isabel and Theresa Gilbert. She is survived by her children, William S. (Donna) Melnick of Ross Twp., Robert M. (Barbara) Melnick of AZ, Thomas E. Melnick of Leetsdale, Elizabeth (Edward) Horvat of Export, PA, two brothers, John (Sandy) Gilbert of NC, James (Janet) Gilbert of Leetsdale, sister, Patricia (Richard) Nawoczynski of Ambridge and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Due to the current health concerns, services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to SS Peter and Paul Ukranian Catholic Church, 404 Sixth St., Ambridge, PA 15003.
