Edward S. Hallas Jr., 80, of Economy Borough, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 10, 1941, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania to Edward S. Hallas Sr. and Mary S. (Homzak) Hallas. Ed served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964 and was stationed in Thailand and Okinawa. He met his wife Esther on July 13, 1965, and they married on October 22nd of the same year. He graduated from Geneva College in 1974, worked as a Civil Engineer at Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel, and together Ed and Esther built their family home in Economy Borough. Anyone who knew Ed knew of his humor and love of life. He was a member of the Baden United Methodist Church and was actively involved with the We Care Food Pantry. He enjoyed Subway lunches, observing nature, playing cornhole and mini golf, listening to country music, teaching line dancing, and watching the Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Esther; his children and their spouses: Edward S. Hallas III (Michelle) Fayetteville, North Carolina; Erik S. Hallas (Kathleen) Ballston Spa, New York; and Susan L. Kopicko (Scott) Ridge, Maryland. He was the fun, loving “Grandpap” to 10 grandchildren: Madison, Branden, Scottie, Karsen, Logan, Kameron, Lauren, Ryan, Owen, and Kiersten, and “Great Grandpap” to Aubrey and Stratten. Ed is also survived by his brothers James Hallas (Betty) and Thomas Hallas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Mary Hallas. Friends will be received on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at John Syka Funeral Home located at 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, PA 15003. Family and friends will meet Friday, March 11, 2022 at 10am at Baden United Methodist Church located on the corner of State Street and Dippold Avenue, Baden, PA 15005, where a funeral service will be held by his pastor, Rev. James Young. Entombment will follow at Sylvania Hills Mausoleum where he will be given full military honors by members of the Beaver County Special Unit and The United States Army. saddened, they take comfort knowing he is at peace with the Lord.
