Donald Barto Obituary

Donald L. Barto, 89, of Economy Borough, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Heritage Valley, Sewickley with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 19, 1933, in New Sewickley Twp. to the late Fleming and Alma (Lotz) Barto. He was a 1952 graduate of Ambridge High School. Don was a millwright having retired from American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corporation with 30 years' service. He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, Economy and a former church council member. He proudly served his country as a military policeman with the US Army during the Korean War in Anchorage, Alaska. While in the Army, he met his lifelong best friends, Don Olson and Ron Blowers. His passions in life were carpentry, home building, coaching Economy baseball teams, gardening and hunting at his beloved camp in Cameron County. Don was a founding member of the North Borough Sportsman Association.  He served as Economy Building Inspector and councilman. Don was an avid Pittsburgh Sports enthusiast who loved the Pirates and Steelers. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a son, Dale Barto, brothers, Alvin and Warren Barto, and uncle, Daniel Barto. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jeanne (Hanlon) Barto, daughter, Debra (Dennis) Bones of Dublin, CA, son, Daniel (Diane) Barto of Baden, daughter-in-law, Lisa Barto of Cleveland, TN, grandkids, Denise Fantone of Baden, Donna (Daniel) Giammatteo of Valencia, Daniel Barto of Rockledge, FL, Jordan (Ariana) Barto of Cleveland, TN; great grandkids, Edyn and Cooper Giammatteo, Jonathan Fantone and Sawyer Barto. Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday at New Hope Lutheran Church, 200 2nd Avenue (Economy) Freedom, PA 15042 where a funeral service will be held at 10 AM by his pastor, the Rev. Martin Galbraith. Interment with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the US Army will follow at 11:15 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Freedom. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the New Hope Lutheran Church.
