Bruce Midkiff Obituary


Bruce Allyn Midkiff, 72, of Ambridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 17, 2022, after a long struggle with Parkinsons Disease.  He was born on March 7, 1949, in Ypsilanti, MI to the late Harold and Mary (McNeily) Midkiff. He was a preservation specialist and stone mason having worked on restoring historic homes in upper New York. He did alot of traveling with his profession and was proud to have helped restore the Sphinx in Egypt. He enjoyed writing and had a book published on the mortar he invented for his profession and another book with short stories. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War. Preceding him in death in addition to her his parents was a brother Matt Midkiff. Surviving are his loving wife, Geraldine (Byrne) Midkiff, three sons, Lee (Kim) Midkiff of NC, Jeremiah (Carola) Midkiff of M0, Sean (Jovah) Midkiff of FL, a daughter, Ginny Saporito of NY, two stepsons, Richard (Marie) Byrne of Upper St. Clair, David (Shellie) Byrne of OH, five grandchildren and six step grandchildren, four brothers, Joe Midkiff, Michael (Brenda) Midkiff, Hal (Kelley) Midkiff, David (Sue) Midkiff, three sisters, Jackie (John) Noriss, Nancy (Don) Miller, Gretchen Bruhnik, numerous nieces and nephews, three close friends who were members of Bruce's writers' group, Alicia, Sally, and Marjorie. There was no public visitation. Any who wishes to attend the burial service are asked to meet in the parking lot of the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr. Ambridge on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 1:15 PM. The funeral procession will leave promptly at 1:30 PM to go to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies where full military honors will be performed by US Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research.
