Betty L. Zabrucky, 88, of Harmony Twp., passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Heritage Valley, Sewickley with her loving family by her side. She was born March 29, 1935, in Chicago, IL to the late Arndt and Mary (Erdner) Backe. She worked as an interviewer for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Unemployment. Her passion in life was spending time with her family and many friends. Betty was loved by all who knew her. She was a longtime faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ambridge. She was involved in the Communion Committee and Altar Committee, taught Sunday School, was a greeter and participated in Bible study and the live nativity. Betty loved to travel and a total outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and canoeing and called very adventurous by her family. She was a member of the Baden American Legion Ladies Auxiliary since 1993 and the Ambridge Eagles Ladies Auxiliary since 1995 and served as a Girl Scout leader. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was a brother, Carl Backe. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Andrew (Andy) "Zip" Zabrucky, three children, Terry (Jim) Schaefer of Summit, NJ, John (Debra) Zabrucky of Ambridge, Amy (Tim) Pannett of Lady Lake, FL, five grandchildren, Jack and Claire Schaefer, Mason Zabrucky, Luc and Taylor Pannett. Friends will be received on Saturday from noon until time of funeral services at 3 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. Dale Stanley will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Washington County.
