Betty Young Obituary

Betty Sue Young left this world to claim her baptismal inheritance as a child of God in her Heavenly home on May 26, 2024.  She will be remembered for her legacy of faith and family throughout her 99 years of life.

She was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania on March 23,1925 to Karl and Gladys Eckert.  She was married to Rudolf P. Young, Jr. for 53 years.  They were blessed with three children Judith (Jonathan) McCready of Beaver Falls, PA; Barbara (John) Reed of Erie, PA; and Roger (Nancy) Young of Economy, PA.  She was the proud grandmother of John (Jeannine) McCready, David (Susan) McCready, Deborah (Ken) Stumpf, Christine (Rusty) Ward, George (Leslie) Zeranick Jr., Patrick (Jennifer) Young, Ryan (Lori) Young, Susan (Ronald) Erickson, Laura Young, 1 step granddaughter Jennifer (James) Pruitt, 17 great grandchildren, 5 step-great grandchildren, and 1 step great-great grandson.

Betty Sue worked at Spang and Chalfant of Ambridge in the Payroll Department and during WW II in the Civilian Personnel Department for the U.S. Coastguard in Norfolk, VA.    She volunteered for many local organizations including Good Will (Ambridge), Belle Acres Volunteer Fire Department, Pack 414 Den 3 as a Cub Scout Leader, and held several positions in the Economy Township PTA.  Betty Sue enjoyed gardening and the fine handcraft of tatting throughout her life. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Rudy (1995), her dear brother William Eckert, son-in-law George Zeranick, and longtime companion Bob Zeller (Economy, PA).

She was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church of Baden following years of active membership at St John’s Lutheran Church in Ambridge and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Wallrose in Economy Borough.

Betty Sue’s family extends their deepest appreciation to the entire staff of The Franciscan Manor in Beaver Falls.   They created a home full of happiness and loving care during her 18-month residence there.   They also extend thanks to Advanced Hospice for their care of Betty Sue during her final days.

The family welcomes neighbors and friends to visitation hours on June 20th 3pm-7pm at John Syka Funeral Home (833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge).  Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on June 21st at 10AM with internment services immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be sent to Economy Borough Fire Department (2856 Conway Wallrose Road Baden, PA 15005) or Concord Presbyterian Church (2832 Conway Wallrose Road Baden, PA 15005).
