Bernie Gurston Brown, of Leetsdale, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the young age of 90. He was born October 22, 1932, in South Bend, IN to the late Fred and Lillian (Linderman) Brown. In 1949,he graduated from Central High in Little Rock, AR, and continued his education at the University of Texas receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. He completed his education with a Master’s Degree in Journalism from Southern Illinois University. His career as a journalist encompassed writing for the Arkansas Democrat, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, and Playboy Magazine. Following his career in journalism, he sought a second career as a world renowned professional dog trainer and author of several obedience training books. He was aware that his success was due in part to his dogs, Sarr, Shawn, Duster, and Bristol. Bernie proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army during peacetime. Preceding him in death is daughter, Karen L. Brown of Little Rock, AR. He is survived by daughter, Deborah (John) Morgan of Little Rock, AR, two grandchildren, Meagan Scott of Little Rock, AR and Brittany Scott of Fayetteville, AR, along with three great-grandchildren, Calem, Josilyn, and Madilyn. Per Bernie's request, there will be no public visitation. Burial with full military honors will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a future date.
