Vincent "Moon" Segeleon, 94,of Sewickley, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018.
He was born November 12, 1923, in Leetsdale, Pa., to the late Mike and Mary Straslicka Segeleon. He received his bachelors in education from St. Vincent College. He then served as Head Master at Allegheny Academy and was a math professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He was longtime member of St. James Catholic Church, Sewickley. Moon was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the submarine USS Hardhead in the South Pacific. He was a former postmaster for the Leetsdale Post Office and served as Quartermaster for the Leetsdale VFW for over 40 years. He was a proud member of the World War II Submarine Veterans Association..
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Eleanor Zappie Segeleon, two sons and daughter-in-laws, Lawrence and Susan Segeleon of Virginia Beach, VA, and Richard and Mary Catherine Segeleon of Louisville, KY, five grandchildren, and ten great grand chidren.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Philomena Segeleon, Florence Vilk, and Ruth Zagorski and five brothers, Edward, Frank "Tubby", Andrew, Louis and William Segeleon.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where prayers will be offered Friday at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Catholic Church. His pastor, Rev. Thomas J. Burke will officiate. Interment with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit will follow at 11:15 A.M. in Sewickley Cemetery.
