Theodore "Ted" Manis, age 91, of Ambridge, died Wednesday, October 10, 2018, in UPMC Passavant Hospital.
He was born August 26, 1927, in Ambridge, Pa., to the late Nicholas and Carolyn (Stephansky) Manis. He was a retired metallurgical engineer for the former Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation. Ted was a long time member and past president of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Ambridge, and a former member of GAPA. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife of 61 years, Kathryn Stratakis Manis; a brother, Emanuel "Sonny" Manis; and an infant brother, Michael Manis.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Karen Manis, Pittsburgh; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Manis, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Theodora "Teddi" and Mark Adamcyzk of Allison Park; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Sarah) Manis, Elizabeth (Shayne) Stiger, Christopher Malm, and Emily Adamczyk; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Zachary Manis; and several nieces and nephews.
Ted was a loving, patient, kind and outstanding person. When any one would ask how he was doing, he never hesitated to respond, "WONDERFUL!" He became "The Mayor" at The Haven at North Hills where he enjoyed living the past four years.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of Trisagion services at 5 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. Additional visitation will take place on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Ambridge. His priest, Father Emmanuel N. Lillios will officiate. Interment will follow in the Economy Cemetery.
