Richard J. Katterson

Richard J. Katterson, 80, of Baden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
He was born September 16, 1937, in New Castle, Pa. to the late Howard and Stella Mateja Katterson. Rick traveled overseas for many years and led a rich, colorful and full life. An avid runner, he participated in marathons and triathlons in Europe, the Middle East, as well as the United States. One of his proudest achievements was "running the bulls" in Pamplona, Spain. A lover of music, Rick taught dancing during his travels and  military service before returning to the US where he began his studies at Fordham University and career in the financial industry. Rick will be remembered for his love of the good life and his mantra, "Carpe Diem." Preceding Rick in death in addition to his parents was his son Arik on June 13, 1997. He is survived by a daughter, Emily Katterson of Hubert, NC, two sons, Ben and Tristan Katterson, three grandchildren and was known as "Granpap" to Alivia, Julia, and Allsion, brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Melanie Kellinger and a nephew, Jason Kellinger, all of England. Friends will be received Thursday from 6-8 P.M. in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. where a service will be conducted at noon. Interment will follow in Sewickley Cemetery.
