John Szymoniak, Jr., 74, of Economy, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 29, 2019. He was born January 21,1945 in Sewickley, to the late John G. and Jessie (Bednarski) Szymoniak Sr. He owned and operated Szymoniak Auto Repair for 27 years retiring in 2010. He also worked as a mechanic for Sears Automotive Center, a job he totally enjoyed retiring in 2008. John had the distinction of being the longest standing employee of Sears nationwide. Next to his family, his passion in life was driving his 1966 marina blue Chevelle SS and attending car cruises. He was a member of Good Samaritan Catholic Church, Ambridge. He proudly served his country as a member of United States Navy in Viet Nam and was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation and Navy Achievment Medal with Combat Action Medal. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (Vlasic) Szymoniak, two daughters, Debby (Bob) Scheib of Economy, Alison (Fredrick) Nilsson of Franklin Park, four grandchildren, Evan and Aaron Scheib, and Emily and Owen Nilsson, a sister, Carole (Clay) Hartman of Monaca, a brother, Robert (Theresa) Szymoniak of Economy, and numerous nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind his many many shop buddies who he loved spending time with. Friends will be received Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where prayers will be offered Tuesday at 11:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Good Samaritan Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1:15 PM in Economy Cemetery where the Beaver County Special Unit and the United States Navy will perform full military honors.
