Gerald Wayne Slappo, 71, of Economy, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly as a result of injuries sustained in a fall on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Allegheny General Hospital. He was born February 12, 1947 in Sewickley, to the late John and Mary(Bachor) Slappo. He was a retired engineer for Norfolk and Southern Railroad. His passions in life were hunting, farming, and carpentry. Gerald was a helping hand to all. He proudly served his country as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two sisters, Hilda Louise Slappo and Antonette Bader, and two brothers, Ernie Slappo and John Slappo, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Roxeen Dare Riley Slappo, a son, Gerald Wayne and Jamie Slappo, Jr., three grandchildren, Jessica, Lily and Haden, four sisters, Frances Ciamacco, Mary Rose Slezak, Betty Cipolla and Joanne Mattie, two brothers, Harry and Richard Slappo. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-5 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM Interment with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit will follow in Sewickley Cemetery.
