Georgiann Katherine Mansell, 79, of Ambridge (though she lived more recently in Monaca), died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Ohio Valley Hospital in McKee's Rocks. Born October 28, 1939 in Ambridge, she was the daughter of the late George and Barbara Mijakovich.
Georgiann retired from Mellon Bank where she began as a bank teller and worked her way up to become an Information Analyst in Mellon’s IT department. Additionally, she was elected to the Ambridge Borough Council twice; was a news broadcaster for WMBA radio; and free-lance writer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and The News.
She was preceded in death by her parents and the following aunts and uncles: Katherine and Stanley Fornal, Francis Mijakovich, Frank Salopek, Trella (Salopek) Falvo and Helen and Anthony Rasky.
She is survived by her children: Linda, Lisa, Larry Lauritzen, Laura (Lauritzen) Lauer and Leonard Mansell; Laura’s husband Brian and their three children Casey, Corey, and Ella Lauer; Larry’s wife Anne Lauritzen; and Lenny’s sons, Vincent Mansell and Randy L. Jones Jr. She is also survived by two cousins who were as close as siblings to her: Ron Salopek and Stana Sutter. Other cousins surviving her are: Richard Salopek, Trella Rae Vicznesky, Stanley (Sonny) Fornal.
Words of Remembrance to be said by family and friends, all are welcome, in the John Syka Funeral Home 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, on Sunday from 2-5 PM, and on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Good Samaritan Cemetery in Fair Oaks.
