Florence Anson, 92, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Sewickley, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Born March 13, 1926 in Thessaloniki, Greece to the late Nickolas and Helen (Margiou) Vaxevanopoulou. She was a proud member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Ambridge and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, Mt. Lebanon. As a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, Florence showcased her enjoyment of cooking and Greek hospitality. She truly loved entertaining friends in her home. Whether playing Canasta, sharing gardening tips, or telling stories of her travels abroad with friends, her passion for Greece prevailed. Florence's pride in her culture and her unwavering Greek Orthodox faith is her legacy. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband Boris and a sister, Georgian Dardas. Florence is survived by a son, Paul (Athanasia) Anson of Herndon, VA., two daughters, Kathryn (Charles) Stern of Collier Twp. Helen (David) Yourd of Mt. Lebanon, six grandchildren, Alexandros (Eugenia) Anson of VA, Jaimie (Zachery) Economos of Center Twp., Faye Anson of Herndon, VA, Christina (Jason) Gross of Rostraver., Nickolas Yourd and and Zackary Yourd, both of Denver, Colorado and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1-5 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Dr., Ambridge. A Trisagion service will be held at 1:30 PM in the funeral home. Additional visitation will take place on Monday from 9:30 AM until time of funeral services at 10 AM in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2930 Beaver Rd. Ambridge. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Ambridge, PA.
