Emilie Klavin, 88, of Economy, formerly of Harmony Twp. died Monday, October 14, 2019 in Heritage Valley Health System, Sewickley. She was born May 19, 1931 in Kiev, Ukraine to the late Karl and Helena (Voytenko) Klawins. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 at the age of 20 and spoke four languages. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and happiness to Emilie was a house full of family. She deeply treasured her longtime established friendships. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Nick Klavin Sr., grandson, Edward Klavin II, and son-in-law, Timothy Rakovan. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Rakovan with whom she resided, Victoria (Dr. Victor) Bowers of Tampa, FL, two sons, Nick (Ann) Klavin Jr. of Fairfax, VA, Edward (Toni Marie) Klavin, Sr. of Aledo, TX, six granddaughters, Dr. Amy (Dr. Robert) Schutt, Dalana Klavin, Mary Klavin, and her spouse Christie Jones, Barbara Klavin, Helena Klavin, and Karina Bowers, four grandsons, Chariton Klavin, Timothy and Dmytri Rakovan, Nicholas Bowers, great-grandchildren, Savanna, Clark, and Maxwell Schutt, brother and sister-law, Edward and Sharolyn Klawin of Sonora, CA. Friends will be received on Friday from 3:00 PM until time of Parastas services at 7:00 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive Ambridge. Translation of the body will follow at 7:30 PM to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Additional visitation will take place on Saturday at the church from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM with The Very Rev. Michael Kochis officiating. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Vladimir Parish Endowment Fund, 313 9th Street, Ambridge, PA 15003.
