On October 2nd Heaven received a shining star. Doris Singer Kokoski 86, of Economy borough took her final bow and went to dance with the angels. She was born November, 9th, 1931 in Sewickley, and was the daughter of Raymond and Myrtice Singer. She passed in the comfort of her home with her loving family near by.
Doris was the owner of the Doris Singer Dance Studio which is currently in its 75th year. She created a legacy of providing young dancers a chance to follow their passions and shared the art of dance with thousands of young dancers throughout the area. Doris was a member of Dance Masters of America for over 50 years, served as president of chapter 10 as well as chairman of performing arts both locally and nationally. She was a member of the cecchetti council of America, and the Chicago teacher association. She was honored by Dance masters of Pa as member of the year. Doris and the studio was always involved in community events and shows. Her students were recognized both locally and nationally and many went on to have dance careers of there own. A highlight of her dance years was Meeting the legendary Bob Fosse at a cast party after watching her student make their Broadway debut.
Doris was preceded in death my her loving husband Gene.
She is survived by 2 sons and daughters in-laws; Dan & Amy Kokoski, Cheswick, Pa., Dale and Connie Kokoski, Katy, Texas, Daughter Darci Kokoski, 4 grandchildren Missy, Meghan, Kelly and Kevin Kokoski and her special fur buddy Plie.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2-8 P.M. in the John Syka Funeral home Inc, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. Family and friends will meet on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. for a celebration of life in the New Hope community Church, 592 Beaver, Rd, Ambridge, officiated by Pastor Rick Thornhill with a gathering after at the Baden American legion.
Contributions can also be made to Doris singer memorial fund which will provide funding for scholarships/awards to Dance masters of Pa. students.
