Sam Johnson Baden Sam Johnson, 83, of Baden, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018, in Heritage Valley Health System, Sewickley, following a brief illness. He was born August 6, 1934, in Ambridge, Pa., to the late Gus and Mary Lima Johnson. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He was a painter by trade. His passion in life was basketball. Sam played for Highland School and Ambridge High School. He befriended Dennis Wuycik while attending his games at Ambridge High School. This resulted in a longtime friendship that resulted in Dennis attending University of North Carolina. He then became good friends with Coach Dean Smith that led to Sam to moving to North Carolina where he made a living as a painter. Sam returned to Ambridge and continued his career as a painter and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. His lifetime love for the UNC Tar Heels continued in his later years until God called him home. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S Air Force. Surviving are his two sisters, Isabel Niznik with whom he resided, and Amelia (William) Avdellas of Camp Hill, Pa.; two brothers, John (JJ) Johnson of Ambridge, and James (Pauline) Johnson of Baden; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. Additional visitation will take place on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2940 Beaver Road, Ambridge. His pastor, Father Emmanuel N. Lillios will officiate. Interment with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the U.S. Air Force will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
